Brian Matson Becker
Dec. 13, 1964 - Nov. 8, 2023
CARBONDALE, IL - Brian Matson Becker of Carbondale passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in Jackson County, IL after suffering cardiac arrest. He was only 58 years old.
Brian is survived by his sons, Blake (Kathryn) Becker, Grant (fiance, Koryn) Becker, and Chase Becker; daughter, Stevie Becker; mother, Tedda Becker; sister, Alison (Eric) Schmulbach; brother, Jeffrey (Renee) Becker; nieces, Jennifer and Alexandra Becker, and Christine Deen; nephews, Nicholas Schmulbach, Derek Sapp, Michael and Hunter Martin, and Ryan Becker; other relatives and a great many friends.
Brian was predeceased by his father Jerry Becker just 19 months ago.
Brian was born December 13, 1964, in Palo Alto, CA, the youngest of three children to Jerry and Tedda (Matson) Becker.
With a natural athleticism and inherent competitiveness, Brian excelled as a golfer in his youth and would maintain a passion for sports throughout his life as a spirited fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, San Francisco 49ers, New York Mets, and Boston Celtics. After graduating from Carbondale High School in 1983, Brian attended Southern Illinois University before building a successful sales career spanning several sectors, industries, and fields of interest. The same charismatic personability and razor-sharp wit that helped him excel in his professional life also applied to his personal life, where he made friends with ease and left lasting impressions on those around him wherever he went.
Brian was a deeply intelligent man with a knack for thoughtful conversation and a keen awareness of how (and when) to deploy a gut-busting story that would have the entire room in tears. His humor was matched by a kindness that radiated throughout his various social circles and stops along the journey of his life. Those who knew him knew there was no one else truly like him.
There wasn't a thing in the world Brian wouldn't do for his four children, and his tireless devotion to their happiness and wellbeing will long live on in the hearts and cherished memories of those children and their expanding families. Following the death of his father in April 2022, Brian stepped up and moved in with his mother to provide assistance, support, love, and companionship in her time of need.
