John Stewart Obituary

MARION -- John W. Stewart, 71, passed away unexpectedly at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

John was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Greenwood, Neb. He was the son of Vernon and Gertrude (Brakeage) Stewart.

John was united in marriage to Joyce A. Marshall on Feb. 2, 1963, in Fontana, Calif. She survives.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons, Scott Douglas Stewart and Ronnie Neal Stewart, both of Marion; two granddaughters, Emily Jade Stewart and Heather Nichole Stewart; four sisters, Barbara Ann (Robert) Wishman of Ashland, Neb., Janice (Randy) Horn of Lincoln, Neb., Ruth (Bob) York of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Linda (Larry) Meyer of Greenwood, Neb.; three brothers, Jerry (Penny) Stewart, Kenny (Jean) Stewart and Jimmy Stewart, all of Greenwood, Neb., along with nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Lynn Stewart on Sept. 27, 2002; two brothers, Ivan Stewart and George Stewart and two sisters, Dorothy Comstock and Judy Thoms.

John served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963. He was a member of the Ashland, Neb., American Legion Post. John's working career was in the field of energy production and he had been employed at the Hallam, Nebraska Power Plant.

John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed deer hunting. He was also a race horse enthusiast, having owned and raced horses over the years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 31, in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with Pastor Jeff Van Cleve officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 30, at the funeral home.
