Mary Deaton Obituary

MARION -- Mary Jane Deaton, 84, passed away peacefully at 2:45 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born Thursday, Sept. 21, 1929, in Buckner, the daughter of the late George and Annie (Tregoning) Webster.

Mary Jane was united in marriage to George Edward Deaton on Monday, Oct. 19, 1952, in Benton, and together they shared nearly 62 years of marriage.

She was a registered nurse, having graduated in 1951, from Saint John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. Mary Jane began her working career in nursing with the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Marion. She later began working for the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department in Marion, and retired as Director of Nurses for the health department.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia. She also was a member and volunteer of Heartland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Marion Chapter of the Senior Circle.

She is survived by her husband, George Deaton of Marion; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Debbie Deaton of Christopher, Greg Deaton and Doug and Melinda Deaton, all of Marion; her granddaughter who she raised, Chelsea Duty and her husband, Chris, of Creal Springs; her other grandchildren, Stephanie Deaton of Chesterfield, Missouri, Kelly Cameron and husband, Todd, of Jacksonville, Florida, Douglas B. Deaton of Marion, and Jessica Lenon and husband, Chad, of Creal Springs; three great-grandchildren, Addisyn Lenon, Katelyn Cameron and Jaxon Lenon; sister, June Webster of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Nadine Webster of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Jane Webster of Benton; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Wiley; and her husband, G.B.; three brothers, Sidney Webster and wife, Yvonne, George Webster and A. Jack Webster; and daughter-in-law, Kitty (Walter) Deaton.

Services will be private in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home at 900 N. Court St., in Marion, with the Rev. Eddie Donelson officiating. Interment will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton.

For those who prefer, memorials in memory of Mary Jane Deaton may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959.

Mary Jane was a co-worker with me at Bi-County Health Dept. for several years. She was the sweetest lady I have ever known and had the best sense of humor. She was a friend and a mentor. She will be missed. RIP. I adored you.
