Sam Myers Obituary
He was born May 31, 1950, in Libertyville to Lois Luck.
Sam was a handsome and creative man who had a charismatic disposition and made friends with everyone he met. He was inspirational through his creative works, which included paintings, sculptures, floral arranging and interior design.
He owned and operated Studio 1 florist in Herrin for many years and owned Myers-Avripas Design (interior design team and buyer for Walker's Bluff) in Herrin with his partner, Edward.
In addition to his business talents, Sam was a very spiritual man who challenged himself, after being saved more than five years ago, to reach out and lead others to Christ.
He was a member of Southern Illinois Worship Center in Herrin and loved and cared for the church and its congregation.
In his spare time, he and Edward loved traveling the world and meeting and interacting with people of different cultures and beliefs. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his companion and partner for 36 years, Edward Avripas of Herrin; three sisters, Mary Ann Bateman of Wauconda and Jacqueline Myers and Kristin Ficher, both of Champaign; brother, Patrick Luck of Wauconda; Edward's mother, Jewell Avripas of Herrin; Edward's brother, Dennis Avripas of Herrin; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; many close friends; and his church family.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and stepfather, Marion Luck.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in Southern Illinois Worship Center in Herrin with Pastors Jason and Melissa McKinnies officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to Sam's Chapel (a monument to Sam, which will be erected at Walkers Bluff) and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, 201 S. 13th St., Herrin, IL 62948.

It has been 11 years since Sam has passed. I still relive the special talks we would have every month for 18 years. I loved his sense of humor, his sincerity, and excitement that he would share regarding new challenges, his spiritual life, as well as his life and love for his partner, Ed. Sam and Edward are part of our family. We pray for everyone left behind. Sam was a wonderful person. Hope he will be another angel to watch over all of us. Hopefully Edward and the rest of the family know our prayers are with them.

Sam was a delightful person and it was a blessing to have known him. So sorry to learn of his passing. He did a beautiful job when he decorated the interior of Avripa's apartments and did wonders with my impossible hair. My thoughts and prayers are with you Ed.
