Muriel Williams Obituary
Selma - Muriel P. Williams, 99, passed away on Monday evening, July 17, 2017 at her residence.
She was born on November 17, 1917 in Bedford, the daughter of George Emery and Martha (Murphy) Turpen and attended Bedford Schools. On November 14, 1948 in Bedford, she married Ermal Williams and moved to Muncie in 1948.
Muriel worked for 20 years at Wolfe's Ice Cream and 10 years at Hot Sam's Pretzel Stand at the Mall until her retirement in 1987. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Surviving are one daughter, Martina Young (husband, Floyd) of Selma; one son, David Williams of Muncie; one step-son, Ermal Eugene Williams (wife, Marcy) of Kokomo; six grandchildren, Gene Williams (wife, Marcedes) of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael Williams (wife, Rie) of San Diego, CA, Elisa Thomas (husband, Greg) of Fishers, Anthony Young (wife, Margaret) of Greenwood, Kimberly Sims (husband, Matt) of Cloverdale and Janice Hammond (husband, Neil) of Daleville; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one nephew, Jimmy Bolding of Muncie; one niece, Dorothy Denny of Bedford; and special friend, Mary Lou Barnard of Muncie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Ermal Williams on September 9, 2009; one brother, Robert Turpen and one sister, Mabel Fortner.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Tobby Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017.
Muriel wrote a note to her family as follows "thanks to my loving daughter Martina Young and her husband Floyd for the loving care they gave me; to my loving son David who gave up his home to come back to Muncie and help me; love to my niece, Dorothy Denny; to my nephew, Jimmy Bolding; to all my grandchildren; my special friend, Mary Lou Barnard and love to my step-son, Eugene Williams and his wife Marcy".
