Brian was born December 29, 1954 in Orangeburg, SC a son of Dr. Hugh E. Smith and Martha Meares Smith. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, graduating from Orangeburg High School in 1973. Brian graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Architecture, a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Master of Arts in Architecture, and later was a member of the AIA.
As a young man, Brian was a member of Boy Scout Troop 45, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. At 14 years old, he approached architect West Summers for help with a merit badge. This was the beginning of his lifetime profession. Brian was one of Atlanta""'s top architects, specializing in luxury customs design and home renovations throughout the Southeast. His work was published in numerous regional magazines, and has received multiple awards and recognition from the Home Builders Association and the Southeastern Builders Association. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother Hugh E. Smith, Jr.
Survivors include his partner, Kenneth Sidwell; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Smith; a sister Bonnie S. Raney (Dan), Lake Lure, NC; a brother Jefferson H. Smith, Columbia; a sister in law Kim O""'Quinn Smith, Aiken; an Uncle Samuel H. Meares (Laura), Fayetteville, NC; five nieces; one nephew; two great nieces and three great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 250 Williams St. Atlanta, GA 30303 or to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Dr., Atlanta, GA 30319

Ken, it is hard to believe it has been 10 years since Brian's passing or 7 years since Darrell's passing. Have always been told that time heals the pain but it hasn't worked for me. Hope all is well with you.
