Chef John,
You welcomed our family to Columbia, SC nearly 20 years ago when the Midlands Chef Association of the ACF was so new with just 5 members. My husband and I met you at USC when we first moved down here, and the first thing you said to us was, "Do you have plans for the weekend? We are having a picnic at my home. I want your family to come." We will never forget the yearly picnics at your Lake Murray Home with family invited. The pontoon boat rides were so much fun. You cared about your fellow culinarians so much and gave so much to all of us. Your stories are treasurable as well as you have been. When my son and I couldn't come to the monthly meetings, you always asked my husband, Chef Joe, how we were. Chef Joe wishes he could have seen you on your mutual birthdays this year, but he had to move away that week for a new job. You would have been happy to hear that he finally has employment and was hired to teach, again. We love you and miss you so much. You will never be forgotten.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
