West Columbia, South Carolina - Paul D Smith, 83 of West Columbia, SC died on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Lexington Hospice House after a lengthy illness.
Born in Cornelius, NC he was the son of the late Thomas Wooten Smith and Veda Sharpe Smith.
Paul was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School, Midlands Technical College, and the University of South Carolina. He retired from the Computer Services Dept. at The University of South Carolina.
He took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends, playing golf (until his health did not allow it) and watching the Gamecocks.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Rita D Smith; son, Rick Walsh, and sister, Barbara Collum.
He is survived by sons: Doug Smith (Lisa) of Lexington, SC, Bart Smith (Lori) of Christiansburg, VA; daughter, Robin Walsh of Lexington, SC and daughter-in-law, Melanie Walsh of Gastonia, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tripp Smith (Julianne), Parker Smith (Anna Addy), Morgan Smith, Drew Smith, Whitney Cliff (Ryan), Emily McClintock (Jamie), Clara Walsh and Victoria Walsh; and great grandchildren, Sloan and Beckett Cliff and Evie Smith (due in September).
The family would like to thank the following for their support: Charlie Sharpe, Steve and Helen Hanayik, Deborah Blanton, The staffs at Agape Hospice and Hospice House and The Pines Assisted Living facility plus other friends and neighbors who helped along the way. A very special thank you is extended to Pastor Chris Addy for his love and guidance.
