Darlington, South Carolina - Susan Elgiva Fogle DeWitt, age 79, passed into eternal rest Saturday, February 24, 2024. Sullivan-King Mortuary of Anderson and Belk Funeral Home of Darlington will be handling arrangements. As requested by Mrs. DeWitt, there will be no visitation and the burial will be private.

Mrs. DeWitt was born in Orangeburg County, daughter of the late Lloyd Gillespie Fogle and Margaret Lane Fogle. Mrs. DeWitt graduated from Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She had a long career as a teacher in the Darlington County Public School System and taught adult education. She could never go out without running into a former student. She enjoyed shopping, interior decorating, and party planning. Her greatest joy came from doing for others. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Darlington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Charlie" Allison DeWitt. Surviving are her son, Charles "Chuck" A. DeWitt, Jr., and his wife, Mary Ellen Folk DeWitt; grandsons, Steven Norris and Nicholas DeWitt; her siblings, Steve (Billie) Fogle, Nancy (Tom) Rose, Janice Beane, and Dixie Stullenbarger.

The family would like to thank a multitude of friends who are more like family. Those friends are too numerous to list, but they never hesitated to watch over her and offer to help in any way they could.

Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Jeffrey Scharstein of Darlington, the staff at Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown Greenville, AnMed Hospital of Anderson, NHC Healthcare of Anderson, Medshore, and Hospice of the Upstate.
