ROBERTA GODWIN
SALEM, ARK. — Ruby Roberta Godwin was born the daughter of Hubert Cathorall and Ruby (Landreth) Cathorall, on Jan. 22, 1940, in Carlinville, Ill., and departed this life Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, in Salem, Ark., at the age of 74 years.
She was united in marriage May 5, 1956, in Edwardsville, to Martin Edward Godwin, who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2009.
She is survived by nine children: Brenda Smith and fiancé, Griffin Arnold, Brent Godwin and wife, Angela, Becky Quilhot and husband, Bill, Sherry Waller and husband, Paul, Stephen Godwin and wife, Sheila, Philip Godwin and wife, Annette, Karen Crowe and husband, James, Sarah Inabinett and husband, Bleu, and Paula Johnson and husband, Corey; thirty grandchildren, Christopher Sims and wife, Jacky, Bryan Sims, Kerry Sims and wife, Lyna, Zachary Sims and wife, Madison, Jordan Smith, Keeleigh Smith, Tiffany Presley, Corey Godwin and wife, Lauren, Ezekiel Quilhot, Isaac Quilhot, Daniel Quilhot, Meghan Stowell, Leah Newman and husband, Joshua, Blaine Waller, Gabriel Waller, Jessica Brooke Waller, Seth Godwin, Sagen Godwin, Terra Marie Godwin, Nathanael Godwin, Zoe Godwin, Cameron Clark, Alyson Everright, Cassidy Everright, Luke Inabinett, Alec Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Madelyn Crowe, Eli Crowe, and Eric Crowe; nine great-grandchildren, Julia, Chandler, Gavin, Avery, Landen, Chase, Titus, Luke and Jayden; two sisters, Helen Mann and husband, Morris, and Carolyn Golden; two brothers, Daniel Cathorall and wife, Kay, and Mike Cathorall and wife, Jody; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Duty; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ruby Cathorall; her husband, Martin Godwin: one son, Joseph Godwin; one grandson, Erik Sims; two great-grandsons, William and Michael Stowell; one brother, Earl Cathorall; and one sister, Elsie Duty.
Roberta was a dedicated homemaker, and an excellent seamstress, making most of her children's clothes. She was a wonderful cook, especially known by her family and friends for her delicious apricot pies.
Her favorite pastime was reading, but her greatest passion in life was her family. She dearly loved each and everyone and treasured time spent with all.
She was a Christian lady and a member of the Evening Light Message Church.
Roberta will be remembered by family and friends for her sweet gentle spirit and loving compassion. She was an inspiration to all by the life she lived with her unconditional love, strong Christian faith, and great determination, even in the midst of her trials of life.
She will be greatly missed beyond words, but never forgotten.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel at Thayer.
Burial will be in the Thayer Cemetery at Thayer, Mo., with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer.
