Alphonso DiCindio Obituary
Born in Atri, Italy, he arrived in the U.S. through Ellis Island at the age of 3. He was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Schivone DiCindio.
He married the love of his life, Yolanda Orazzi, June 15, 1946, celebrating their 69th anniversary this past June.
He was a graduate of Dunmore High School. He enlisted in the armed forces at age 17, and continued a distinguished career, retiring from the Air Force as a chief master sergeant in 1970, completing 33½ years of service. He proudly served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He, Yolanda and their children traveled the world, returning to Dunmore upon retirement.
Known to all as Al, he was the supreme example of a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and mentor. Family was always No. 1. He loved attending Dunmore Senior Center and working on his computer. He would never turn down a trip to the casino. He could fix anything, and had every tool imaginable.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughter, Ann Weatherly and husband, Wayne, Tulsa, Okla.; son, Joseph and wife, Sarah, Jefferson Twp.; grandchildren, Whitnie Cypert and husband, Brian; and Erin Gremminger and husband, Jason; stepgrandchildren, Denise Cocco and husband, Joe; and Dawn O'Keefe; great-grandchildren, Carson, Brandt, Kellan, Joey and Nicolas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael DiCindio.
The funeral will be Wednesday from Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment service with military honors will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 340 Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, PA 18507.
