Elizabeth Reuther Obituary

Elizabeth Reuther, 84, of Scranton and a former resident of Dunmore, died Sunday night at Mercy Hospital. She was the widow of James A. Reuther, who died Nov. 29, 2000.

Born in Scranton and raised in Dunmore, she was a Roman Catholic who embraced her faith. She attended Dunmore public schools and, before retirement, was co-owner of Reuther's Café in Dunmore along with her husband and son, Philip.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are two sons, Philip J. Reuther and wife, Mary Rose, Scranton; and James A. Reuther and wife, Kathlyn, Dunmore; a daughter, Denise Martz and husband, John, Scranton; a sister-in-law, Sister Martina Reuther, S.C.C., Danville; 10 grandchildren, Kristin Nafus and husband, Michael, Willow Grove, and their children, Reilly, Olivia and Maeve; Courtney Barrett and husband, Robert, Lansdowne; Jamie Carter and husband, Jason, Greentown, and their daughter, Lily; Philip, Sara, Dana, Lauren and Jeffrey Reuther; Robert Telford, Scranton; and Paul Wittenbreder, Scranton; six additional great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, August Sabatino; and an aunt, Estelle Lewis, who raised her.

A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18509-3116.
