Harold Meyers Obituary

Harold W. Meyers, 86, a lifelong resident of South Scranton, died Friday afternoon at home. He was the widower of the former Helen Crowley, who died May 13, 2001.

Born Dec. 7, 1921, in Scranton, the son of the late Alex and Lillian Schuller Meyers, he was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and its Holy Name Society. He attended St. Mary of the Assumption School and served with the Army, 367th Engineer Battalion, during World War II. His tour of duty included North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Central Europe. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and had worked for Capitol Records and the Snyder Cigar Co. He retired from the University of Scranton, where he worked in the maintenance department.

Surviving are a son, Joseph Meyers and wife, Carolyn, Plains; a daughter, Mary Ellen McAndrew and husband, Brian, Manassas, Va.; a brother, Albert Meyers, Daleville; a sister, Marie Conti, Scranton; a granddaughter, Megan Barber and husband, Jeff, Lorton, Va.; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and George, and a sister, Genevieve Zwick.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, River Street. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery.
