Howard W. Darling, 94, of Factoryville, Pa., passed peacefully to the Lord on Monday, March 27, at Scranton Regional Hospital in the presence of family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Anna K. Darling.
Howard was born in Nicholson, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1928, to Lester W. and Sarah Alice Powers Darling, growing a lifelong passion for farming that he loved talking about with anyone who would listen.
Howard owned and operated Darling Locker Plant in La Plume, Pa., for 64 years serving award-winning kielbasa and meats. He continued working at Trovato's Meat Market until recently. When he wasn't cutting meats, he enjoyed his second passion of tending to crops and was admired for his ability to grow high-quality produce, especially his locally famous sweet corn.
He leaves behind his son, Dean and daughter, Vicki with husband Bob Smith; along with his grandchildren, Corinne, Kurt with wife Krystal; siblings, David Darling and Sally Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by sons, Neil and Howard; and siblings, Roy, Patricia, Olive and Paul.
His family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Regional Hospital of Scranton for providing exceptional care.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Anthony P. Litwin Jr. Funeral Homes Inc., 33 Reynolds St., on Friday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m., and the funeral on Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m.

Howard was so good to my parents, grandparents and myself. They owned The Station Restaurant in Glenburn, from the late 1940's to the mid 1970's. The meats always came from Darling's Locker Plant. He often quickly filled emergency orders when my mom didn't realize we were short of something. We were always greeted with a smile. Howard was a real darling! God bless you, Howard. May you greet me in heaven, one day.

It was always a treat to go shopping at Darling's Locker Plant when we lived in the area in the 60s. Every so often, we would bring a cow or hog to Howard for processing and that would keep us fed for a long time. Rest in peace.
