Patrick Ruane Obituary

Patrick Thomas Ruane, 66, of South Scranton, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. During the last year of his life, he valiantly battled esophageal cancer with dignity and hope.

Born on Nov. 18, 1957, to the late Gerard "Jerry" and Marilyn Ruane, Pat was a lifelong resident of Scranton. He graduated from Central High School in 1976 and began his career with the railroad in Elmira, N.Y., where he first exhibited his strong work ethic and a commitment to serving others. After his time there, he transitioned to Federal Express, where he spent 19 years representing the company with pride and building lasting relationships with colleagues and customers alike. Most recently, he served as the operations manager of drivers at The Prescription Center in downtown Scranton, where he demonstrated his unwavering leadership, reliability, and compassion.

Always welcoming you with a smile, Pat's generosity knew no bounds. Always ready to lend a hand, Pat's unmatched mechanical skills earned him a reputation as the go-to person for any repair or troubleshooting needs.

Family was at the core of Pat's life. He cherished every moment spent with his children, who were his pride and joy. His love extended to his sisters, brothers, and all his family members, whom he held dearer than life itself.

He is survived by his three children, Patrick Jr. and Kailey Ruane, Scranton, and Sarah Ruane and companion Billy Joyce, Avoca. He is also survived by his former wife, Colleen Ruane, and his four-legged best friend, Maddie, who never left his side. Other survivors include three brothers, Thomas (Kathy) and Jay (Mary Ann) Ruane of Scranton, Mike (Genie) Ruane of Moosic; and two sisters, Mary Beth Weber (Bob) and Dr. Lyn Ruane (Kieran Bunnell) of Scranton; and one aunt, Alice Naughton of Scranton; and an Irish clan of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pat's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and the memories of his laughter, generosity, and love will continue to inspire and comfort us.

The funeral will be Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Basilica, 1233 St. Ann's St., Scranton. Friends may call Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, Pa.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kind, compassionate care. Special thank you to his goddaughter, Brooke Ruane Burke, who tirelessly assisted her Uncle Pat in his efforts to battle his disease.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507 or Miles for Michael Foundation, 9 N. Main St., Pittston, PA 18640.
