Richard C. Snopek Sr., 66, of Greenwood, died Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Catherine Walsh.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes Kaczmarek Snopek. He was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1972. Before retirement, he was employed for more than 35 years at the Tobyhanna Army Depot as an electronics technician, a job that allowed Rich to travel all over the world. Upon retirement, Rich worked at Andrew Brown's Drug Store as a delivery driver. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary's Club and the 606 Club. Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially at Christmas time, making sure to continue the Polish tradition of Wigilia. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Dr. James McKenna for the wonderful care given to Richard and for his compassion in helping the family.
Surviving are his son, Richard Snopek Jr. and wife, Lindsey, Scranton; a daughter, Christina Lynn Novak and husband, Stephen, Allentown; five grandchildren, Stephen, Aubree and Alexander Novak, and Carter and Lyla Snopek; a brother, Paul Snopek, Moosic; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish at Church of St. Joseph, 312 Davis St., Scranton, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., South Scranton. Cathy - so sorry to hear of Ricky´s passing. We were good friends starting way back in Kindergarten, when he would rescue me every time I had a bloody nose. Ironically , I just learned of his passing today, while I am recovering from nasal surgery. I reconnected with him at Tobyhanna and to both of you through your Son an my nephew (Kyle) . May God grant you you peace and healing .
