John D. Brewer

1950 - 2020

John D. Brewer "Johnny," went to Heaven on Monday, July 27th, 2020 after seven months of declining health. A native of Burlington, he is survived by his wife, Joy Livingston Brewer; his beloved daughter Livi Brewer Elliott, husband Jeremy Elliott; and cherished grandsons, Hudson Brewer Elliott and Jack McCarter Elliott of St Simons Island GA; and best friend, his Lakeland Terrier, "Little P." He is also survived by a sister, Sandra Brewer Hall of Burlington. Johnny was the son of Henry E. Brewer and Helen Fogleman Brewer, both deceased.

Born in Burlington, February 9th, 1950, he graduated from Walter Williams High School and attended Elon College.

For many years he traveled the southern states as a sales representative for major clothing and giftware manufacturers and attended major markets in the United States. Before retirement, he was owner of Alamance Embroidery.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his successes in tournament play at Alamance Country Club where he spent many happy days. He loved the game of tennis and enjoyed many years coaching and playing with his favorite partner, his daughter, Livi.

Among his many talents was dancing, as he could light up a dance floor. He was an excellent cook and carried on his mother, Helen's, best traditions. Those delicious meals will be missed by his loving family and friends. Johnny made friends wherever he went, always smiling and ready to help. He could fix anything, cook anything, make a good friend and look sharp doing it.

He was a lover of nature and animals and especially loved blue birds. He successfully created a backyard environment for their nesting. He shared his appreciation for blue birds with his grandsons.

His greatest joy and source of pride was his family and loved spending time in beautiful St. Simons/Sea Island with his daughter and family. He delighted in teaching his grandsons how to clean up after a hurricane, pressure wash a driveway, wash a car, blow leaves and take care of nature. He was a special man, affectionately known as GranJohn. We all love him so.

A memorial service will be held, Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Terry Bryant.
