Syble Owens Obituary

Syble R. Davis Owens, 89, passed away May 3, 2018 in Tallahassee.

Syble was born and grew up in Curtis Mill just outside of Sopchoppy, along with three sisters and one brother. Her love for the outdoors was only surpassed by her love for the Lord and her family. She attended school in Sopchoppy until her family moved to Tallahassee, where she finished her last two years of high school at Leon High and graduated in 1948.

After moving to Tallahassee, Syble met the love of her life, Hobert V. Owens who had just returned from the war, and they were married on March 15, 1946. They would enjoy the next 65 years together until his passing. They had four children, John, Ronnie, Sandra and Mike.

She was an active member of the Tallahassee Seventh-Day Adventist Church for many years. She served in many positions. The one she enjoyed the most was working with the young people of the Pathfinder Club which received state wide recognition for their accomplishments. Syble was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, R. Don McLeod #2469, Crawfordville, and a lifelong member of the Eastern Star, Tallahassee Chapter, she was initiated Nov. 7, 1952.

Syble worked for more than 30 years with the Florida Department of Highway Safety/Florida Highway Patrol. After her retirement she and Hobert moved back to her hometown, where she would live until her passing on May 3, 2018.

Family will receive friends at Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey-Young Chapel, Wednesday May 9, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church, 117 Curtis Mill Road, Sopchoppy. Burial will follow at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.

It's been many decades since I last saw Mrs Syble Owens on Bass Street in Tallahassee. She had to be the best mother on the block.
