Alda Vinhateiro Obituary

Alda Vinhateiro "Loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother" Mrs. Alda (Garoupa) Vinhateiro, 91, of Pawcatuck, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the VITAS Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Claudio Vinhateiro. Alda was born in Sao Miguel, Azores on August 23, 1927, daughter of the late Manuel and Patrocinia (Salema) Garoupa. Being a strong and independent woman, she worked for Douglas-Randall for many years before her retirement. Alda loved her family and enjoyed, cooking, baking and crocheting for them. She was known for her sweet breads and coffee cake. She loved to travel all over the world. Alda leaves one daughter, Eva Batista and her husband, Antonio of Middlebury, two sons, Claudio J. Vinhateiro and his wife, Brenda of New Milford, Edward Vinhateiro of Manchester, NH, ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Batista Zappone and her husband, Jeff, Brian Batista and his wife, Natalia, Kevin Batista and his spouse, Truman, Michael Vinhateiro and his wife, Jessica, Jennifer Baldi and her husband, Ben, Ashley Vinhateiro and her fiance, Dave, Cassandra, Christiana, Colin and Lola Vinhateiro, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Urbano Garoupa and two sisters, Maria Ceu Souza and Isuara Parece. Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury, CT. The family requests that everyone meet directly at the church. Burial will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery on Stillman Ave. Extension, Pawcatuck, CT. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT.
