James Mulligan Obituary
James was born in Providence, R.I. to Philip and Annie Mulligan. James was married to Margaret Carey Mulligan for 46 years, who predeceased him in 1992.
James was a WWII Navy Veteran who served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Monterey which was the first ship to enter New York Harbor after the war. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. James was a past Commander and then continued to serve as Service Officer, Chairman of the House Committee, and Permittee for 33 years of the Pawcatuck VFW, also known as the Harley P. Chase Post 1265. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service.
James was a communicant of St. Michael of the Archangel in Pawcatuck, proud volunteer at the Westerly Hospital for over 20 years, avid Canasta player and loyal New England Patriots and Red Sox fan.
James is survived by his daughters, Heather Kiss and her husband John, and Jeanne Boehm and her husband Karl; his grandchildren, Jens Kiss and wife Lesley, Karl "Matt" Boehm and wife Stephanie, Jennifer Kiss DeBedout and husband Jean Andre, Emily Kiss Spano and husband Dan, Amy Boehm, Sheila Boehm, and Ian Kiss and wife Jen; and great grandchildren Ian, Karissa, Kaley, Mariah, Christian, Ashley, Hannah, Margaret, James, Isabella, Allison, Chloe, Sam, Sophia, Emilia, Emma and Jacques. James is also survived by his sister, Therese Mulligan. He was predeceased by siblings Katherine Fraser, Elizabeth Law, Philip Mulligan, paternal twin Ann Orlinski, and George Mulligan.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 7 Elm St., Westerly on Friday, Oct. 25th at 1 p.m., with internment to follow in the church memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center or Christ Church, Westerly.
