Lorna Jeane Mathews

Lorna passed away on Sunday, August 1. 2021. She was born on August 20, 1947 in Berkeley, CA. She attended Marshall Elementary, Eureka Junior and Senior High Schools. She graduated in 1965. She received her bachelor's degree from Humboldt State in History and Music. She ran her own secretarial service in Eureka for over twenty years. She moved to Willow Creek for about ten years before joining her daughters in Chico.
Lorna is survived by her two daughters, Heather Lingemann and her husband, Gian, and their three children: Camille and the twins Andrew and Amelia. And by her daughter Minette and her three children; Taylor Christianson, Maliq Whittington and Terryn Mathews. Lorna is also survived by her sister, Nancy Mathews and her husband, Mike Krook and by her brother Francis Mathews, Jr. and his wife Jan. She was preceded in death by her parents Minette and Francis (Moose) Mathews of Eureka and by her brother, Kenneth of Florida.
Lorna was the artistic member of the family. She played the piano beautifully and also played organ, violin, oboe and many other instruments. She was known for sewing – particularly her quilting. Her colorful quilts and hangings are treasured in our family. She also made hundreds of candles, macramé plant hangars, made mosaics and painted. She and her partner, Vioda, made many Christmas ornaments of wood that were painted cleverly. She was good in the kitchen and canned fruit and vegetables every summer.
The family is hosting a celebration of life event, on Saturday November 6, 2021 at 1pm in one of Lorna's favorite places, Trinity Village. The summer cabin of her brother Butch Mathews is located right on the Trinity River. Take the turn for Denny off Hwy 299, Left at Hawkins Bar Rd (Trinity Village Sign) . Left at river access road – follow to the end. This is an informal affair to share memories and the joy Lorna brought to so many people's lives.
