Edward Bennie "Ed" Mclane

1934 - 2023

MCLANE, Edward "Ed" Bennie, of Mechanicsville. It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ed McLane at his home is Mechanicsville, VA, but peace and joy that he went to be with our Lord on November 17, 2023. He was born on January 3, 1934, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Ed was a man of many talents. He embraced life with enthusiasm and a zest for adventure. After receiving his small engine pilot's license in his youth, he thrilled to fly low over his sisters' homes to frighten them. He also loved riding motorcycles. Professionally, Ed was a skillful barber, running his own shop for 50 years at MCV with his co-worker Mary and even working at Bubba's Barbershop for 20 years every Saturday. He had a unique knack for making conversations with customers and playing pranks on the other barbers in the shop. He built many treasured memories with his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Atkinson Jones; and son, Joseph Ira McLane. He leaves behind his beloved wife; Judy McLane, his children; Tina Prestipino (Lou), daughter in law, Bev McLane, Scott McLane (friend Angie), K. Shawn Reese and Dana, Ben McLane and Jessica, Ashley Pritchard Gunderson and Jason, including 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Ed was loved and will be missed by many.

To honor his memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Atlee Community Church-7171 Verdi Ln. Mechanicsville, VA 23116. The family has requested casual dress for the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Atlee Community Church or Beyond Boundaries Non-Profit Foundation at Beyond Boundaries (beyondboundariesrva.org).
