Henry Conrad Warlick
Henry Conrad Warlick, 93, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at his home.
A native of North Carolina, Conrad graduated from Wake Forest College, B.A. in 1951; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, M.A. in 1953; and the University of Virginia, Ed.D. in 1971. He served from 1953 to 1957 as an officer in the U.S. Navy and as Chief of Operations on the USS Pictor, stationed in the Pacific. He taught at Wake Forest College from 1957 to 1960. He then attended graduate school at the University of Virginia, taught English there, and served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions. In 1974, he joined the administration of Mary Washington College as Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid. During his years there he also served as Executive Assistant to the President, and finally as Senior Vice President until he retired in 1997.
Conrad was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, The Salvation Army, the University of Mary Washington Foundation, and the United Way. He was a member of the Industrial Development Authority for the City of Fredericksburg and served as secretary and then chairman of the Authority. He was a member of Kiwanis International and served as president of the local chapter. Through the years he was active in a number of state, regional, and national college admissions organizations, serving as President of the Potomac-Chesapeake ACAC from which he received the Apperson Award for outstanding service. He served on the founding boards for the Fredericksburg Academy and the Fredericksburg Festival of the Arts. He was a board member of the Friends of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Mary Washington and served as Chairman of the Board.
He was an Eagle Scout, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, The Raven Society of UVA, Omicron Delta Kappa, Fredericksburg Country Club, and St. Anthony Hall social fraternity.
Conrad is survived by his wife, Anne Embrey Shanklin Warlick; a son, John Harrelson Warlick and his wife Susan Kerns Warlick; a granddaughter, Katherine Anne Warlick; a grandson, Scott Turner Warlick, all of Fairfax Station, VA; a son, James Morton Warlick, of Belgrade, MT; and one sister, Rachel Harrelson Warlick Dunn, of Colfax, NC, and her husband James Alan Dunn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Caldwell Warlick, Sr. and Lucy Harrelson Warlick; and by his brothers, Alfred Caldwell Warlick, Jr. and Robert Bruce Warlick.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception will be held at 1 p.m., at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center, 1119 Hanover St., Fredericksburg.
