Dr. Rupert K.A. Schmidt-Ullrich

Dr. Rupert K.A. Schmidt-Ullrich, 61, died peacefully on December 20, 2004 at the VCU Medical Center where he was professor and founding chairman of the VCU Department of Radiation Oncology since 1988. Dr. Schmidt-Ullrich has established an international reputation for his expertise in the field of radiation oncology. He will continue to be admired, loved and missed by his wife of 31 years, Dr. Brigitte Schmidt-Ullrich; daughter, Alexandra Schmidt-Ullrich; and son, Philipp Schmidt-Ullrich. In Germany, he is survived by his mother, Dipl. Ing. Ingeborg Schmidt-Ullrich; and sisters, Dr. Ruth Schmidt-Ullrich and Elisabeth Schmidt-Ullrich. He will be remembered for his nurturing personality and strong drive to master all his interests. He shared his love of art, good food and wine, gardening, travel, and appreciation of nature with all of us. We continue to live with what he taught us; especially, as we walk in a beautiful garden or on the beach...to learn, observe and reflect, as he always did.
