Bernard Grabowski Obituary

Bernard F. Grabowski Ph.D., born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Nanticoke, was the son of Benjamin Grabowski and Stella Olshefski Grabowski.
He went to Nanticoke High School, attained a B.S. in pharmacy from Temple University in 1952; an M.S. in pharmaceutical chemistry, Temple University, 1954; Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry, University of Maryland, 1958; and post doctorate at the University of London. His honors included the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, Phi Lambda Upsilon Honorary Chemical Society and Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Bernard taught for 20 years at the following institutions Ï Temple School of Pharmacy, University of Maryland, Ohio Northern University, University of Missouri at Kansas City, and College Misericordia (department of nursing). He was honored as an Outstanding Educator of America in 1972. Bernard also published numerous research articles on the topics of chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences and was a co-author of the textbook, Methods of Drug Analysis, 1969.
Bernard was active in many organizations, including board member of Nanticoke State General Hospital, North East Counseling Service, Luzerne-Wyoming MH/MR and former president of the Luzerne County Pharmaceutical Society.
He was an active member of St. Joseph's Slovak Church, Nanticoke. Bernard volunteered his services to the church by acting as a eucharistic minister and lector. In addition, he is a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Order of Alhambra.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Dr. Marie Grabowski, Nanticoke; sons, Peter, Baltimore, Md.; and Mark, Nanticoke; daughter, Jean, Nanticoke; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jared Lucarino, Conyngham; sister, Betty Grabowski, Glen Lyon.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Slovak Church, 107 E. Noble St., Nanticoke. Interment will be held at St. Adalbert's Cemetery.
