Michael Shannon Obituary

October 24, 2009

Michael J. Shannon, of Yatesville, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittston, July 23, 1947, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Mary Grace Corcoran Shannon. He was a graduate of St. John's High School and was a Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Michael was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston. He was employed as a Master Electrician for more than 24 years and also served as a training director. He was a member of the Local Union 163, Wilkes-Barre. Michael was one of the original co-founders of the Yatesville Bocci League and was an avid Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame fan. He was a loving husband, father and a devoted grandfather. He eagerly looked forward to babysitting his granddaughter Ava Grace, and also was devoted to his granddaughter, Lola. He was always there to lend a hand, either with yardwork and gardening or his knowledge of carpentry and electrical work for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion DePascale; son, Michael Jr., Pittston; daughter, Renee Serino, and husband, A.J., Yatesville; brothers, Thomas M. Shannon, Exeter; Dennis, Pondhill, Pa.; granddaughters, Ava Grace and Lola; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston. The Rev. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J., will officiate. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, Pa. 18704, or S.P.C.A. of Wyoming Valley, Fox Hill Road, Plains Township, Pa. 18704
