My deep condolences to all Harry's family. After I arrived to Dover from Spain in 2000 I found in Harry one of my first and good friends. We shared many hours playing chess and even some tennis games! His stories were always fun to listen to and I will always have good memories of the time spent with him.
God bless,

My brother and I delivered the newspaper to Harry for many years. Whenever we would go collecting, we undoubtedly would end up being at Harry's house for at least a half an hour. His range of knowledge and personal stories he had to tell no doubt would have kept us there longer if we had had the time. While I didn't know a lot about him or know him much personally, he was one of the few customers that I still thought of from time to time. It made me sad to see that he had passed away. My thoughts are with his family.

I have many Harry stories, but shall only relate one. When my father died, Harry gave him as good a compliment as he could. "Your Dad, he thought out of the box"
If more people Listened to Harry, instead of hearing Harry, this town would be a better place to live

To Carol: I am sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. My sister called and let me know. My thoughts are with you. I know what it is like to lose a father, we are orphans even at our old age. After time, the happy memories replace the sorrow.

Carol, John, and Marc, there are words, only words. Harry was a great best friend. We could and did talk about anything and everything over the years. Yes, he promoted Liberty always, and convinced me to believe in it early on in my life, despite heated emotional conversations and my once very differing thoughts. I can't over-state his influence on my thinking. And he appreciated SO much from our world. He'd whip books off the shelf and read aloud from countless thousands of passages he'd marked. For me, not being a bookworm but rather a more verbal learner, he was a "best of" treasure trove. He was the best teacher (if unofficial) I ever had. He was like a gleeful kid as he'd enlighten and re-discover for himself. I truly loved the conversations. From Poe's Raven to Henry Hazlitt's "Economics in One Lesson," he purely worshiped beautiful writing and great thinking.
Harry was a character indeed, who was forever offering his idea of helpful tips to strangers. While not always received well, countless times I witnessed his ability to make instant friends who sung his praises on the spot. I've never known anyone quite like this.
He was very proud of his "elite" fighter pilot status in the Army Air Force (Corp?), but from a satchel containing his war records and some college writings, he once showed me a poem he'd written concerning sex entitled "The Urge To Merge," which has remained lost ever since, but which I thought was such a brilliant piece of work (had me smiling and laughing), it ought to be shared with everyone.
Sadly, I'm sad I didn't speak with him more often in recent years. Last spring he talked of a trip he took to D.C. last year (?) to see the WW2 memorial. He said a couple from the Columbus area(strangers?), associated with some organization (?), called and took him, gratis. Amazing what people will do for each other. Ahhh, well, just rambling. Freedom Works!

I wish I would have known Harry better. I do know my mother, Kristine Carpenter (Retzler), loved him very much and I am sure they are having one interesting conversation at the moment. I will always remember Harry playing tennis at the park and how my grandmother wanted him to teach me to play, but I wanted nothing to do with it. He will be greatly missed!

Our family will never forget the effort your father made to bring you to my brother's funeral. Your presence was a source of light in an otherwise dismal day.

Carol, Jon and Marc, I am very sorry to hear of your Father's passing. I have very happy memories of him all the way back to the '60's when he and your Mother would come to my parents home for bridge, parties and just the casual get together. I always wanted to be older so I could be included in their always lively discussions. I knew your Dad as a good hearted, good natured, energetic, principled, passionate, man who was always ready for a debate, but who never let a difference of opinion get in the way of friendship.
Once again, please accept my condolences on your loss. I will always think kindly of him.

Marc and Family, You have my deepest sympathy during this difficult time.
Harry used to come into the genealogical library. He wanted to find things about his grandfather, Isaac Robb, who fought and died during the Civil War. We were able to find some letters that Isaac wrote to the newspaper. Harry was such a character and I liked him very much.
I remember the story that Marc told about Harry when Nora died. That explains to me why there is no funeral home involved or at least listed. I can imagine that this is the way Harry wanted it and I know, that even though this is a very sad event, I have to smile at remembering the character that Harry was!
Peace to his ashes!
