Daniel Marinello Obituary
VILLA HILLS, Ky. Daniel A. Marinello was a very spirited Italian, a natural born leader and a lover of people. The former CEO of Angstrom Technologies in Erlanger, Ky. and 25-year engineer with IBM in Essex Junction, Vt., died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, South, Edgewood, Ky., after a year-long battle with liver disease. Mr. Marinello held five United States Patents in the field of technology. A native of Albany, N.Y, Mr. Marinello was raised on a poultry farm where he developed a passion for hard work. He was the son of an Italian father and an Irish mother. He attended grade school and high school in Voorheesville, N.Y., where he played basketball and became very involved on student council. He graduated in 1957 from Voorheesville High School. He attended the very prestigious Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. and Hudson Valley Technical Institute, where he received his industrial engineering degree. He went to work for General Electric in Waterford, N.Y. and Pittsfield, Mass. From there, he was hired by IBM as an engineer, where he began developing his patents and traveled around the world, significantly impacting many businesses with IBM technology products. Dan was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge #100, F&AM in Burlington, Vt., a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a member of the Cairo Temple in Rutland, Vt. In 1991, the board of directors of Angstrom Technologies invited him to northern Ky. to take over as CEO. Shortly after the move, he met his loving companion of 15 years, Dr. Rosa Weaver. Dr. Weaver and Mr. Marinello worked very hard together organizing the well known golf outing for the Kenton County School District Educational Foundation. Dan contributed greatly toward these fund raising events, and the school system and students became the beneficiaries of his efforts, said Dr. Weaver. The couple enjoyed golf, traveling and entertaining, and he was well known for building his famous spaghetti sauce. Dan enjoyed going to the Drawbridge Inn in Crescent Springs, a favorite hang-out. He loved to meet people there, many who became very close friends, said Dr. Weaver. Dad enjoyed golf, traveling, building tomato sauce, visiting his grandchildren in Vt. and spending time with his many friends, said his daughter, Danielle Bevins of Colchester, Vt. Other survivors include his loving companion of 15 years, Dr. Rosa Weaver of Villa Hills, Ky.; another daughter, Julie West of South Burlington, Vt.; sister, Sue Gruss of Slingerlands, N.Y..; five grandchildren; and a closely related nephew, Michael Marinello. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel A. and Mary E. (Cleary) Marinello Sr.; and a brother, Joseph Marinello. A Catholic Blessing will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 10 at the Reilly and Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Avenue, Colonie, N.Y. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
