Dee Clark Obituary

Clark, Dee WEST SENECA, N.Y. Dee Clark, of West Seneca, a country music singer and radio personality, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga. She was 61. Born Doris A. Clark in Albany, September 10, 1946, she started her professional career as a 13-year-old country singer in the Albany area. At 25, she was invited to join the "WWVA Jamboree," a radio program based in the Capitol Theatre in Wheeling, W.Va. Ms. Clark sang with a number of country stars, including Hank Thompson, before taking a job in the early 1970s as a personality on WOKO in Albany. "She loved radio, and she loved country music, and she wanted to put them both together," said her husband, Dr. Jay Richards, also a radio personality. She and Richards, who were married 15 years, purchased Pa. radio stations WBLF in State College and WLYC in Williams-port, and they worked at both stations. The two also worked as radio hosts on WGNA in Albany, WBUG and WRUN in Utica and, most recently, WJJL in West Seneca. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Lawrence C. Ashcroft, and a brother, George Clark. Her funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. today in Sieck & Mast Funeral Home, 250 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca.

I met you when I was 5-years old at the camp and we were there for Annie's wedding. I was awed at how pretty you were and how nice. I have been told that I must have gotten my gift for music and singing from you and Delores. I am sad as too many members of this family have passed on in such a short period of time. I am your neice or 2nd cousin I am not sure which. Condolences to what family is left on my father's side. You have my deepest sympathies,

Melinda Clark

Please accept my sympathy regarding your loss of a wonderful woman that I only knew by listening to her and Dr. Jay on WJJL in the mornings on my way to work. I enjoyed listening to "you two" very very much and it always put a smile on my face so early in the mornings.
