Gladys I. Schellinger

Schellinger, Gladys I. MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. Gladys I. Schellinger, 91, of Mount Laurel died on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013 at the Samaritan Hospice Center in Mount Holly, N.J. of natural causes. Born in Chelsea, Mich., Gladys was a longtime resident of Cherry Hill, N.J. and subsequently Mount Laurel. Most recently, she resided at the Lutheran Home, Grace Assisted Living in Moorestown, N.J. Following her graduation from Ypsilanti High School in Michigan, Gladys expanded her horizons through international travel, numerous working experiences and extensive reading to become a well-versed independent woman. As a member of the "Greatest Generation," Gladys supported the war effort in a variety of homefront activities during World War II, while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. Gladys worked at Strawbridge & Clothier located in the Cherry Hill Mall and later co-established with her husband Dick, the Koin Korner, a retail business in the Moorestown (N.J.) Mall. After 21 years in this successful business, she and her husband retired in 1985. She loved spending time with her family, caring for pets, and had an affinity for sewing, crossword puzzles and gardening. Gladys was a devout Roman Catholic and a living example of her faith. She was generous, compassionate, and always put others before herself. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Dick. She is survived by a daughter, Trudy D. Quigley of Mount Laurel and a son, Richard T. Jr. and his wife Laurie of Clifton Park and six grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, 42 W. Main St., Moorestown. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
