John H. Ludlum Jr.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. John Henry Ludlum Jr., 88, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 7, 2005. Dr. Ludlum was born on December 13, 1916 in Albany, N.Y. He is the son of John Henry and Mary Harpham Ludlum. He grew up in Albany and graduated from the Albany Academy. He received a B.A. from Rutgers University in 1939, a B.D. from New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 1943, and a Ph.D. from Yale University (Department of Near Eastern Languages and literatures) in 1957. He also studied at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary. His doctoral studies included Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, as well as the Literature and Criticism of the Old and New Testaments. He pastored churches for 40 years in the Reformed Church in America including Nicholas Collegiate Church in NYC and Ellenville Reformed Church in Ellenville, N.Y. Throughout retirement he continued his life-long work of scholarly studies and writings in defense of the Bible as God's Word and the Christian faith. He is survived by his wife, Noelle Marian Atwood Ludlum; two brothers; a sister; six children and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Bridgewater, Va.
