Lois Gundrum Obituary

Gundrum, Lois L. GRAFTON Lois L. (Eaton) Gundrum died December 28, 2010, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Lois was born in Sutton, Mass., on June 20, 1943 to the late John A. Eaton and Alta M. Eaton. Lois graduated from Sutton High School in 1962 and studied nursing at Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. Lois married Rynard G. Gundrum on October 1, 1963. During their 47 years together, they built the Rynard G. Gundrum Lumber Company, of Grafton, N.Y., a family business that through Lois' hard work and daily devotion, continues to thrive to this day. Lois was an elected assessor for the Town of Grafton, as well as a member and past chairman of the Grafton Planning Board. She was also bookkeeper to the supervisor during various terms throughout the seventies and eighties. Lois' passion for the medical field led her to become an EMT and a tireless member of the Grafton Rescue Squad. She also was a member of the medical team for the Ski Patrol at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in the Berkshires. Her passions and hobbies included quilting, knitting, American colonial history, the Boston Red Sox, spending time with her grandchildren, caring for her cows and horses, and devoting her life and love to her beloved husband and children. In addition to her husband and mother, Lois is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Gundrum; her son Rynard G. Gundrum Jr., his wife Susan; her grandchildren, Francesca, Olivia, and Tyler Gundrum, all of Grafton; her brother, Jeffrey H. Eaton and his wife Sissy of Weathersfield, Vt.; her mother-in-law, Charlotte Momrow; her brothers-in-law, Gordon H. Gundrum (Joan), George T. Gundrum, Peter W. Gundrum, Jerry Gundrum, Charles Momrow, and John Momrow; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Horn (George), Rita Smythe (Jim), Susan Dayton (Wayne), and Sally Moon. Lois is predeceased by her father, John A. Eaton, her sisters- in-law and best friend, Hilda Goyer, Bertha Rathbun, Janet Ward, and Elizabeth Esposito. In addition to her family, Lois is survived by her beloved employees and their families at Gundrum Lumber: Stephen MacDonald, Roger Gentner, Walter Ruebel, Michael Seyerlein, Mark Seyerlein, Andrew Crandall, Richard Brown, Michael Palmer, Lawrence Radley, Tommy VanBuskirk, Ron Howard, and Butch Hall. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas J. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, N.Y. A celebration of Lois' life will be held in spring, with interment in the Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grafton Rescue Squad.

Rynard, Ingrid and Rynard, Jr. The news of Lois's passing is shocking to all who knew and loved her; none more than you, her family. Speaking for myself, and as her former sister-in-law, she was always there whenever I felt I needed her. ALWAYS smiling; always full of life. She was a good and caring woman with a wonderful sense of humor who will not be forgotten. I remember her years ago sitting in the middle of a pile of old tires in your yard--patiently and carefully removing the weights from those old tires. I could not believe she was doing it but it was all for her family and the business. That's a woman of fortitude and stamina if I ever saw one. Raymond fondly remembers how nice and welcoming she always was to him and Glen when they moved to Grafton. We both extend our deepest, deepest sympathy to each of you. Remember all the good times because that is what she would want you to do.

I will miss Lois. My brother George said it best she was more of a sister than a sister-in-law. And she truly was, she was tough but always fair and she always, always had a smile for you. We have a big empty space in our hearts that Lois used to fill. I deel such a deep saddness for my brother Rynard and his family. Susan Dayton Cropseyville.
