Charles Dennis Smyth, Jr., (Denny), 74, of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020, after a five-year battle with Alzheimer's-Dementia. Charles was born July 8, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Charles Dennis Smyth, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Pankey Smyth who both pre-deceased him. Charles graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1964 and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana in 1969 where he was a proud member of the Gamma Alpha Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order.
Charles is survived by his wife, Pamela Riley Smyth, and his four children, daughter Muriel Elizabeth Smyth Young, her husband, Geoffrey Young, their son, Preston, and daughter, Wilson; daughter Miles Taylor Pascoe, her husband David Pascoe and their two sons Sidney and Ethan; son, Charles Dennis Smyth, III (Trey); and daughter Shannon Oesch, her husband Brian Oesch and their son, Emmet. Charles is also survived by his sister, Judith Smyth Parker, her husband Thomas D. Parker, their son Dalton Parker, his wife Alison, and their son Jackson.
Charles was awarded best yearly salesman by the Independent Life Insurance Company, was the owner of Cypress Business Forms and, before his retirement was a North Carolina Real Estate Broker.
Charles enjoyed the outdoors, the stunning mountain views that surrounded him, and loved hiking, golfing, and playing with his grandchildren. Charles was quick-witted, loved telling jokes, never met a stranger, and all who came to know him loved him.
Due to COVID-19, there will be a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. (
