HOWARD Dennis Eugene Howard, 62, died June 18, 2016. He was born Oct. 12, l953 in Jacksonville, to John Paul and Mary Louise Mickler Howard. He graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1971 and from the University of Florida, College of Business Administration in l976. Dennis enjoyed working in the real estate business until his employment with CSX in l997, first as a conductor and then as an engineer. Dennis truly loved driving the trains and the lasting friendships he made with fellow employees. He was predeceased by his father, John Paul Howard, and his brothers, Mark Steven Howard and Scott Paul Howard. He is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Howard, sister, Sharon Howard Tanner, son, John Dennis Howard, daughter, Ellen Howard Agrella (Matthew) and granddaughter, Eloise Anne Agrella. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Services will be held Saturday, June 25 at 1:30 PM at Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210, the Rev. I can't tell you how sad I was to hear of Dennis' passing. I didn't know him well, but knew him from the old Crazy Horse Dance club that we all went to on a weekly basis. Dennis was a ladies gentleman and an all round likable guy. Every time I heard the train whistle along Roosevelt Blvd in the early morning hours He told me it was him blowing it. He often spoke fondly of his Mother who he loved greatly. I will miss him and I know his many friends will too. Sincerely, ROBERT Y H THOMAS

RIP Dennis "on the train" Howard. Thank you for every thing you did for me. Keeping me safe at "57 Heaven" , every Thursday night for years. You always made me laugh especially when you moved into the same Condo Community and told everyone you were my ex-husband. Huge THANK YOU for giving me away at my wedding, without you I would not have met my husband 16 years ago. I love you and you will truly be missed.

I am sorry to hear of Dennis' passing. I met Dennis at Bailey's gym and he always had a smile on his face. I live in Ortega Forest and would think of him when the train horn blows at night. He put a smile on my face to hear his laugh! He is a sweet soul and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I know he will be missed!

I just saw the obituary of Dennis passing. I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear this. Although I didn't know him well, I saw him on a regular basis at a dance club we all went to in Orange Park. I considered him a good friend. He use to tell me that it was him blowing the train whistle early in the morning on Roosevelt Blvd. with a laugh. He mentioned his Mother often with affection. He had a great since of humor. He will be missed by all his friends. Robert Y. H. Thomas

Mrs. Howard and Sharon, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Dennis. This is such a shock and relates just how fragile life truly is. I last saw Dennis and Mrs. Howard a few years ago at Ardens on the west side. Since then, living on Heckscher, I always looked for Dennis when the train blocked the road. I thought about him every time I saw the train, since he told me he was the one that blocked the road. We laughed about it and I told him it was much better knowing it was someone I knew and cared about. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this impossible time. My prayers are for Dennis and the Howard family. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Dennis only from the lake in Keystone Heights. Dennis had a jovial personality and nothing ever seemed to get him down. I know that he will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends.
