John Brabenec Obituary

Brabenec
John B. Brabenec, age 48, passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida on May 24, 2021, having fought a brave battle against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
John was born on November 13, 1972 in Jacksonville, Florida to Susan Beckley Brabenec and John J. Brabenec III. After graduation from Wolfson High School in 1991, John served in the United States Marine Corp and then earned his associate degree from Santa Fe College in Gainesville.
Throughout his life, John's creativity and artistry were evident. As an artist, John was sensitive to and inspired by all that was unique. John was a student of history, collected artifacts, restored antiques, catalogued music – ultimately amassing a broad knowledge that informed and shaped his artistic work. With his hallmark precision and skill, John produced art and modeling works of detail and beauty. Ultimately, John found great joy in his art and reveled in his freedom to create.
Witty, smart, and confident, John's independent spirit exuded strength and possibility. Such a spirit engendered the admiration of others. John was unencumbered by convention and lived a bold and joyous life. John loved the open air and wide sky of the ocean, was a highly skilled fisherman, and enjoyed sharing these passions with others.
In sharing of himself with humility and generosity, John truly lived a good life. John showed God's grace to those around him without expectation of gain. John was blessed with a heart tender enough to recognize and respond to the needs of others. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John is survived by his mother, Susan Beckley Sharp; and sister, Susan Brabenec-Page (Derek). John is preceded in death by his father, John J. Brabenec III.
A Service to the Witness of the Resurrection was held June 3, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel and Cemetery in thankfulness for John's life and the Life to come.
May it be remembered that John maintained his characteristic optimism and strength in the face of an unexpected and improbable illness. In tribute to John's resilience and in furtherance of providing hope for others, memorial gifts may be directed to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville ALS Research at www.mayoclinic.org/giving-to-mayo-clinic/ways-to-give or Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Thank you, Veteran, for your service to our country in the USMC. Thank you to his parents for raising such an outstanding son. We are sorry for his illness, grateful for his loving heart, and pray that he may now rest in peace. Please accept our condolences and prayers for the family. We are much the poorer for not having known him.
