Louis Rice Obituary

RICE Our dear friend Louis Alden Rice scored a front row seat in Heaven! Born December 23, 1935 in Huntington, West Virginia, Lou grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He attended Maury High School and went on to attend The University of Virginia as an English major where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He married his wife, Lelia Martin on July 11, 1964 and gained three loving, adopted children upon their union. Lou worked in the music & video industry for forty years with residences all up and down the East Coast. He & Lee eventually settled in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Lou was passionate about music and a treasure trove of information of almost every genre from Tommy Dorsey to Jimmy Page. He enjoyed concerts, local theater, fine dining and traveling. A life-long Episcopalian, Lou was a licensed lay reader in SE Virginia and NE Florida. He was active with Meals-On-Wheels. Lou is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lelia Rice; sisters Marcia Lindemann, and Beatrice Adreon; his brothers, Lloyd Rice, Chuck Rice, and baby John Rice; his grandson, David Robert Martin. He is survived by Bebe Humphries, his sweetheart and best friend; by sons Joseph Roderick Rick Martin and David Lawrence (Julia) Rice; daughter, Sharron Leigh Rice; grandchildren Jeffrey (Wendy) Senneville, Daniel Louis Rice, Lelia Rose Rice, Keely Martin, Jesse (Tara) Tolison, Casey (Adam) Teller, Jackie (Travis) Hill; a nephew, Ron Rice; Sister-in-law, Miriam Dellinger, and twelve great grandchildren. Lou devoted his time to family & friends; he strove to achieve the highest honor any of us can hope to attain: to be remembered with love by family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7th at 10:30 am at Saint Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church at 465 11th Avenue North in Jacksonville Beach. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice or the First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Jacksonville, FL.
