Thomas R. Malarkey
Thomas R. Malarkey of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Tamaqua, died peacefully at home on Feb. 15, with his beloved wife, Joan, at his side.
Until his retirement, he was employed by the National Security Agency.
Born in Coaldale in 1940, he was a son of the late Raphael and Ellen (McGroarty) Malarkey.
A 1959 graduate of Marian High School, Thomas also graduated from Penn State University in 1963.
Tom and Joan enjoyed attending the theater; watching the Washington Nationals baseball team; and spending time in Cape May, N.J.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are brother, John Malarkey, and his wife, Jane; nephews, John Jr., and his wife, Kathy, James, and his wife, Lisa, Joseph and his wife, Jennifer; and several cousins and loving friends.
Tom was predeceased by his sister, Rose Mary Malarkey.
Service: A memorial Mass was held in St. John the Evangelist Historic Church in Silver Spring, MD.

We used to shoot pool and otherwise hang out at Herman's in Tamaqua. Tom was a good guy. He always had a funny thing to say, and if it wasn't funny, it was the right thing. I am sorry I never saw him again after graduation from high school. We could have shared Penn State stories as well.
