Ahmad NASERDIN Obituary

NASERDIN Ahmad Ahmad Naserdin was born on October 17, 1928, in Aita Al-Fukhar, Lebanon, to Muhammad and Aicha (Yassin) Naserdin. In 1939, Ahmad went to live with his sister's family in Damascus, Syria, where he continued his education. In 1953, he joined his parents in Toledo, Ohio. He married his soul mate, Samira Yacteen, in October 1957, after meeting her only twice. Since Ahmad was from Toledo and Samira was from Springfield, Massachusetts, they decided to have two wedding receptions so that all family and friends could attend without traveling a far distance. Ahmad's passions were writing and reading. From the time he was a small boy, he was always seen with a book in his hands. He loved history and had an uncanny ability for statistics. He had published several books in Arabic and English throughout his years. His first published book in English was in 1970, "The History of the American Muslim Society", for all the early immigrants who wanted their story to last throughout time. From that moment on, Ahmad was usually found sitting behind his typewriter clicking away. He was so amazed when he received his first computer and could switch between English text and Arabic text with a click of a mouse. He loved to write about history, but towards his later years, he dedicated his time to update the family tree with a story about each individual, and writing his memoirs. Ahmad was also a huge fan of Farid Al-Atrash music and movies and knew them all by heart. Ahmad is survived by his wife, Samira; children, Suham (Dan) Recknagel, Jamal Naserdin, Hider (Yasmeen) Naserdin, and Huda (Randy) Cole; grandchildren, Stephen Recknagel, Sara Recknagel, and Layal Naserdin; great-granddaughter, Sophia Recknagel; brother, Adnan (Yvonne) Naserdin, and so many relatives all over the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Fozeya, and Hadeya. Religious services were held at The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, Perrysburg, OH on Friday, March 24, 2012, at 12:30 p.m., with burial at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, OH. Arrangements were handled by Witzler-Shank Funeral Home in Perrysburg (419-874-3133).

I worked with Ahmad at Balduf Bakery back in the late 1970s. We had a lot of interesting discussions about life. I learned a lot from him. I also enjoyed reading his many letters printed in The Toledo Blade opinion section. He was one of the most passionate people I ever met. My condolences to his family, whom he said was the most important thing in his life.
