Edward Salvatore Obituary

EDWARD VINCENT

SALVATORE - died peacefully on 11/9/06 at the Connecticut Health of Greenwich Nursing Facility where he had been cared for by the devoted staff for the past 8 years following a series of strokes. He was born in Greenwich on March 30, 1919, the third son of the son of the late Maurice and Loretta McCann Salvatore.

He attended Greenwich schools and through the encouragement of his teachers at Greenwich High School, he attended Harvard College (now University) where he graduated with honors in Romance Languages in 1941. After Harvard, Edward toured the country as Production Manager with a group of traveling actors who performed classic plays for school children. Following a short stint in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II, he spent his career working for the New York Trade Unions Council as a waiter, commuting between New York City and the family homestead at 96 Lewis Street. He was known for his brilliant mind and was a voracious reader throughout his entire life.

He was predeceased by his brothers Victor and Joseph. He is survived by Richard and Mary Salvatore of Greenwich, his brother and sister-in-law and Beulah Salvatore, the widow of Joseph Salvatore who passed away on 11/1/06 in Canon City, Colorado. Edward leaves 10 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass at St. Mary's Church will be celebrated on Friday, November 24th at 10:30 AM. Internment will take place following the Mass in the family plot at St. Mary Cemetery on North Street. The Fred Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's name to the Richard M. Salvatore Scholarship Fund at St. Mary's School at 469 North Street, Greenwich.
