Mattie ROSE Obituary

ROSE Mattie L. Sunrise: June 22, 1929 Sunset: March 19, 2010 Mattie L. Rose was raised up with serving God in Shady Grove Baptist Church as a little girl. She was born in Decatur, Miss. on June 22, 1929, to the union of (deceased) Carlton L. Temple and Queenie E. Temple. Mattie Rose was employed at Country Brook Assisted Living for 27 years and loved by all. She enjoyed her family and grandbabies, along with meeting her sisters and nieces on Mondays at her sister Bessie's house for homemade biscuits with the Breakfast Club. One of her favorite things was planting flowers at her church, the Faith Healing C.O.G.I.C. She was so proud of her pastor and son-in-law, Bishop Peter. S.D. Thompson, Sr. of the Faith Healing C.O.G.I.C. She also enjoyed the birthday parties that were organized by her daughter, Luella Carswell, in her home year after year. Their baby sister, Margaret A. Gullatt, would pick up Mattie Rose and Bessie Gardner and go to lunch, enjoying each other's company three times a week. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughters, Luella Carswell, Rev. Sandra Thompson; son, Robert Rose; grandchildren, Alex, Darnell, Anthony, and Joseph Carswell; granddaughter, Keeahra Peeples; grandsons, Peter and Ben Thompson; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Temple, Lewis Temple, L.C. Temple & M.L. Temple; sisters, Bessie Gardner, Katherine Davis and Margaret Gullatt; a host of nieces and nephews, along with a multitude of friends and loved ones. Friends may call on Friday, March 26th, 2010 at the United Church of God in Christ, 1301 Broadway, with Wake service from 9am to 10am and Funeral service at 10am, Bishop Peter Thompson Sr, officiant. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home. Online condolences: blanchardstrabler.com

Luella, Sandra and Robert we are so sorry for your loss. We love Aunt Matt and will miss her dearly. She was so sweet and generous. I will never forget the little stuffed animals she bought for me and the cute little motorcyle collectables that she would buy for Buddy. Just because she knew that we loved those things. God bless her soul forever and may God bless you all.
