Millicent Apardian Obituary

Millicent Apardian

8/2/1932 - 9/27/2024

Milly, a compassionate and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024. She was born in Alton, Illinois, on August 2, 1932. Milly was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Bessie Dederman. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 67 years, Garabed (Gabe); her two children, Greg (Jenny) and Jeff (Dorothy); and her six cherished grandchildren.

Milly was an active member of the DeVilbiss High School class of 1950. She then went on to graduate from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and worked as a Pediatric Nurse at Toledo Hospital (where she met Gabe in 1955) for many years. Milly also worked as a substitute nurse in the Washington Local School System doing kindergarten checkups and later at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Milly and Gabe married in 1957 and enjoyed traveling with their AAA travel group on numerous trips and cruises. She also loved traveling to Phoenix, AZ, each year. While there, she would try to visit former classmates that had moved to Arizona as well. Milly loved collecting unique souvenirs from all their travels and was always the last one to leave the shops with those treasures in hand.

Milly made special efforts to keep up with friends, family, classmates and neighbors over the years. She played a key role in organizing DeVilbiss Class of 1950 reunions, remained an active member of the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, and was an active member, along with her husband, in many organizations including the Toledo Armenian Association, Metroparks Toledo, The Toledo Museum of Art, The Toledo Zoo and Toledo Botanical Garden.

Milly had a unique gift for documenting the lives of her family and friends, always ready with her camera to capture every moment. Whether it was a family gathering at home, vacations or an everyday scene, she made sure no memory went unnoticed and loved sending those pictures to everyone.

She was known for her wit and unforgettable and contagious laugh. Her kind heart, compassion and dedication to those she loved has made her an irreplaceable presence in their lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those wishing to donate in Milly's memory are asked to consider the American Heart Association or any other organization you choose.

A special thank you to the staff at Kingston Residence of Sylvania and the Elara Caring Hospice team. All of you have been amazing. You not only cared for Milly with dignity and respect but her family as well, especially her husband Gabe. Our appreciation has no limits.

The loving family of Mrs. Millicent Apardian. I truly sorry for your loss, I didn't know your wife but do know Jeff and Dorothy. As we all know God only takes the best. He had his reason for your family member. She just left too soon. Remember all the good times you had with Millicent and all the caring she did for all of you and the work that she did in raising you. Memories is all we have. God Bless all of you and be well and safe.
