Richard Bartell Obituary
Richard H. "Dick" Bartell
Richard H. Bartell, age 92, of Toledo Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022, at Springfield Masonic Community. Dick, as he was known by his many friends, was born in Toledo Ohio to Harry and Mildred (Bauman) Bartell and lived there most of his life until moving to Springfield Masonic Community in 2020.
Dick graduated from Libbey High School in 1948 where he was a standout player on the school's baseball team, before attending Bowling Green State University. He was called to active duty during the Korean War and served his country faithfully until being honorably discharged from the 37th Infantry Division of the United States Army, having risen to the rank of sergeant.
Immediately following service in the army Dick began what would be a 37 year career with Kraft Foods, retiring in 1991, and a 68 year marriage to his sweetheart, Janet Weber. They shared many wonderful years at their home on Rocksberry Avenue in south Toledo and summer weekends for over 60 years at the family cottage on Long Lake near Reading, Michigan. Dick was an active member in a number of bowling leagues for many years, as well as being involved in the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the US Air Force Academy Parent's Club. Dick was a long-time active member of the Zenobia Shrine Director's Staff, and worked tirelessly at many events to raise funds for the Shriner's Children Hospitals as well as participating in many parades throughout the region.
Dick was a man of few words but always shared a good laugh, a few beers and delightful evenings with friends and neighbors at his and Janet's legendary weekly driveway gatherings. He was a great family man and a wonderful dad and grandpa, being always supportive and exemplifying the values he held dear, loving kindness, honesty, hard work and generosity. Dick was a man you could count on to help with a problem or share a kind word. He will always be remembered by those who knew him as the good guy he was.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mildred Bartell. He is survived by his son, Rick (Melissa) Bartell; grandchildren, Nathan Bartell and Kate Bartell; and his dear cousin, Gary Bauman, Gary's wife Sally and their children.
Internment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Springfield Masonic Community for everything they did.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Zenobia Shrine, 8048 Broadstone Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551
