XIAOLING NIU

Xiaoling Niu PLAINSBORO Xiaoling Niu of Plainsboro, NJ, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, following a long battle with gallbladder cancer, while under the loving care of her son and husband. She was 51 years old. Xiaoling was born in Changyuan, Henan, China, on May 13, 1964. She was the second child of Qianmao Niu and Ruixia Zhao. She had an older brother, Jianlei Niu; a younger brother, Jianzhong Niu, and a younger sister, Yanling Niu. She was admitted to Zhengzhou University in 1981 and, after four years, enrolled in graduate school at the University of Science and Technology of China, pursuing a master's degree in theoretical physics. In 1988, she moved to Wuhan to work in the Wuhan Institute of Textile Technology as an assistant professor. On Nov. 2, 1988, she married Shanfu Zheng, and two years later, she gave birth to her only child, Luyu Zheng. She moved to the United States in 1997 with her family and earned a master's degree in statistics at Rutgers University. Xiaoling worked at the Commission on Higher Education of New Jersey from 2000, and then worked at the New Jersey Department of Health as a scientist since 2003. She authored nine publications relating to cancer epidemiology which have received at least 100 citations by other papers. She is survived by her husband, Shanfu Zheng, and her son, Luyu Zheng, who remember her as a loving and caring wife and a nurturing and supportive mother. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542.
