Dr. Benjamin J. Weisband

Dr. Benjamin J. Weisband, formerly of McKeesport, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009. Beloved husband of the late Marion Ruth Weisband; beloved father of Saundra (the late Sanford Blatt) Alexander, of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla., I. David Weisband, of Moorestown, N.J., Gerri (Michael) Weiss, of Mt. Lebanon, Linda Weisband (Jeffrey Stambaugh), of Placitas, N.M., and Jan (Robert) Goldberg, of Belle Meade, N.J; grandfather of Jennifer Honig, Tiffany Willner, Alexis Madrid, Heather Azoulay, Avi, Molli and Anni Weisband, Melissa Henry, Douglas Weiss, Melanie, Sean and Seth Stambaugh, Adam, Jason and Andrew Goldberg; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Dr. Weisband was the patriarch and pillar of strength for his children, grandchildren and extended family. He gave unconditional love and support. He never failed to make the trivial milestones seem colossal and the colossal seem just that. He believed that difficult times are magically diminished when we live them together. Dr. Weisband was a dedicated surgeon who practiced at McKeesport Hospital for more than 40 years. He was passionate about medicine, the kind of doctor who always spent as much time with his patients and their families as they needed. He was the first physician in this region to perform an open heart massage. An avid golfer, Dr. Weisband welcomed each new member of his family and each new resident at the hospital by inviting them to join him on the links. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL INC., 5509 Centre Ave., Shadyside, followed by services at 11 a.m. Interment in Kether Torah Cemetery.
