Charles Baines Obituary

Retired Army Sgt. Maj. Charles N. Baines, of Adelphi, Md., died Sunday, June 22, 2008. He was born in Canton, Ohio, served in the Army faithfully for more than 23 years, was acknowledged in "Who's Who in Law Enforcement" on the east coast out of 100 sergeant majors of color and in Adelphi worked for the Army Research Lab as director of emergency service. He is survived by devoted son Charles M. Baines, cherished lifelong companion Retired Army Reserve Lt. Col. Constance Pope, loving aunt Dolores Hall, beloved cousins Lynette and Deborah Hall and other relatives. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until a noon memorial service Saturday, July 12, at HINES-RINALDI FUNERAL HOME, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Md. Interment with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in Arlington National Cemetery. The family would appreciate flowers, or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11331 Amherst Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902.
