Anthony Monti Obituary

Anthony J. (Tony or Moose) Monti Sr., 72, of Alpharetta, Ga., beloved husband, father and pap pap, passed away at home under hospice care Saturday, June 5, 2021. He was surrounded by family, his most valued gift. He was under hospice care only 56 hours. He fought an unbelievable fight against blood cancer for 11 years. He was born Oct. 30, 1948 (his own father's 29th birthday), in Natrona Heights, to the late Frank and Marcella (Burk) Monti. He grew up on West 11th Avenue, Tarentum, and attended Sacred Heart School until entering Tarentum High School and graduating in the class of 1967. He went on to Penn Technical School and graduated in April of 1969. During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Hazlett, Nov. 30, 1968. His career began at NCR in Cambridge, Ohio, in contract manufacturing in 1969. He worked there 10 years before moving his family to Lake Jackson,Texas, to work at Surgitronics. In 1983, they moved to Huntsville, Ala., where he worked at SCI, Comptronix and later ADtran. His family lived in Huntsville for 21 years before moving to Alpharetta, Ga., where he worked at IT T (IT Technical) before retiring at the age of 62. But the move wasn't because of his new job. It was for family, so he could be closer to his children and grandchildren. Anthony was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2010, but after two stem cell transplants and many years of chemo, his life was very full because of his fighting spirit. He was always surrounded by family. His neighbors will remember Tony as the man that sat on the front porch ready to offer any advice on how to make and keep their lawns beautiful. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy, his daughter, Andrea (Mike) Bourgeois and son, Tony (Amy) Monti Jr.; and his granddaughter, Madelyn, and grandsons, Michael and Reid Bourgeois. He also is survived by his brother, Frank Monti, of Brackenridge, and his cousin, Randi Burk Petracco, of Lower Burrell, as well as many Monti cousins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2400 Old Alabama Road, Rosewell, Ga. A celebration of life will be held immediately after at Haynes Landing Clubhouse in Alpharetta, where family and friends can come together to reminisce about the adventures of a man whose "black and gold" blood was never tainted by blood cancer and who never met a person he couldn't share something as simple as a smile, conversation, tool or a dinner. Even with cancer, he volunteered at church, with the homeless, local hospital and his daughter's school. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Tony's memory to the Atlanta Area Multiple Myeloma Support Group Inc., 887 Mentelle Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.

I had the pleasure of hiring Tony and working with him until his health got in the way. I will never ever forget his positive energy, hilarious wit, and his willingness to sit and share his wisdom with me on a regular basis. We sat and talked about a lot of things in my office and we even did some studying together through the church.

Even after he stopped working he used to come by at lunchtime with a brown bag lunch just to have hang out with me and the rest of the guys.

Those were good days and I’ll miss him.

Rest In Paradise Tony!
