George Queer Obituary

George A. Queer, 73, of Acme, passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at Latrobe Specialty Care, with his family by his side. Born Jan. 29, 1938, in Buckeye, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose E. (Haney) Queer. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Latrobe Steel. He was a member of Possum Hollow Gun Club. George was a veteran, having served in the Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Nannie Faye Soles, Esther Queer, Vernon Queer and Homer Queer. George loved his woodworking, fishing, gardening and hunting. He was the loving husband of 54 years to Shirley A. (Wilson) Queer; the loving father to Barbara J. (Richard) Ciglar, of Norvelt, and Robert G. (Renee) Queer, of Hannastown; loving grandfather to Rose (Josh) Biller, of Calumet, Andrew Cigar, of Norvelt, and Bryan and Nicholas Queer, of Hannastown; also surviving is a sister, Bessie Uram, of Acme; and nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, where his funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Ronald Dugan officiating. Interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery with full military services by Armbrust Veterans Association. The military will hold a service at 10:45 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
