Jean Jones Obituary

Jean (Alter) Jones, 93, of Murrysville, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009. She was born March 4, 1915, in Logans Ferry, daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Shirley Alter. She was a member of Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, was a founding member of the Murrysville Crochet Group that has donated more than 1000 baby blankets and bonnets to needy families throughout the world, and was an avid gardener and accomplished quilter. She was a former church organist and was active in local civic affairs including the Four-H Club, creation of School Lunch Programs and other activities involving the church and community. She was preceded in death by her husband, D. Eugene Jones, in 1981; and a son, Barry E. Jones, in 1996. Jean is survived by four children, Donald H. (Barbara) Jones, of Pittsburgh, Leland A. (Berenice) Jones, of Delmont, Beverly Jones (Buzz) Taylor, of Oakmont, and Jay A. Jones, of O'Hara Township; seven grandchildren, Tom Jones, Amy Teele, Autumn Katarincic, Nathan Jones, Hannah Jones, Stephen Jones and Ali Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren, Dawn, Sam and Emily Teele, Tanner, Leland, Connor and Sydney Jones, and Jack, Molly and Charlie Katarincic; a daughter-in-law, DeAnn, of Hudson, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. ONLY Sunday at the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., Murrysville. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Marnie Silbert officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in the Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough. If desired, memorials may be made to Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, 4600 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, PA 15668.
