Margaret Crouse Obituary
Margaret "Peg" Luce Crouse went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 10, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at her assisted living home in Bradenton, Fla. She was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Perryopolis, where she resided until she entered Bethany College. She transferred from Bethany College to Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, where she graduated with a BS degree in home economics. Upon graduation, she married Dr. George W. Crouse, of Smithton, physician in Youngwood and surgeon at Westmoreland Community Hospital in Greensburg. Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Ellen Blair Luce; a brother, Francis, and a sister, Betty Luce Sager, all of Perryopolis; and her husband, Dr. George Crouse, of Greensburg. Surviving are her four children, Nancy Burke Page, of Kane, Marsha Allan Tyrrell, of Bradenton, Fla., Kathie Crouse Bortz, of Waynesburg, and Michael Crouse, of Freeport, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Matthew Luce, of Rockwood; and several nieces and nephews. Peg and George resided in the Youngwood/Greensburg area all of their married lives where she was a devoted wife and mother. She was a great lover of gardening, poetry and music which led to her active involvement in her community. In the late '50s and early '60s, Peg directed the Youngwood Choralettes, a ladies singing group that travelled the tri-state area; she was a board member of the Westmoreland Symphony; and a member of the Westmoreland Medical Society Auxiliary, the Westmoreland Museum of Art, the Greensburg College Club, the Greensburg Garden Club and the Hannastown Golf Club. She was a member of the Youngwood Methodist Church and later on the First Presbyterian Church (Lois Circle) in Greensburg. No one loved life more than Peg Crouse. She lived every one of her 97 years to the fullest, even claiming the third place title in the Senior American Idol competition in Tampa, Fla., at the age of 95. Her motto was "doing something kind for someone every day." She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.
The family is having a memorial to celebrate her life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.
