Shirley J. Yohman

1937 - 2023

Shirley J. Yohman, 86, of North Huntingdon, sadly passed from this life Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. She was born March 21, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, to her loving parents Gilmore and Mary (Wilseck) Smith. Shirley attended Hurst High School, where she was a Majorette and met the love of her life, the late Henry C. Yohman Sr. They were married for over 69 years. The story of Shirley's life was one of loving and caring for those around her. She took joy in being surrounded by family and the families of which she was an honorary member. She never missed a basketball or football game, swim or track meet, musical or recital. She loved being present and supported her family unconditionally. Shirley never missed a birthday brunch, anniversary card, or reason to celebrate and always brought the fudge. Shirley's love extended to her profession, providing companionship and care for those who needed it in their golden years. Many of her clients were younger than she. Shirley's grandkids would often joke that "Gram takes care of old people. They're younger than her though." Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin and lived a life in the glory of our Lord. She attended services regularly and loved to worship through music: "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross" being two of her favorite hymns. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Kull; and siblings, Ruth Allshouse, Gwen Harenchar, Mary Lou Navalaney and Thomas and Robert Smith. She is survived by her children, Henry C. Yohman Jr. and his wife, Barb, of Mt. Pleasant, and Luann Fraicola and her husband, Bill, of North Huntingdon; her grandchildren, Chase Fraicola (Tun), Ashley Yohman (Gary) and Natalie Bitner (Chris); a brother, Richard Smith, of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Sharon Heath. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, 617 Main St., Irwin. Everyone attending the service please go directly to the church.
